Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the website edutain-certificate-validator.edutainmentuk.com (the “Website”) and your purchase, download, installation, and use of the Edutain Certificate Validator plugin, whether Free or Pro (the “Plugin”). Together, the Website and the Plugin are the “Service”.

The Service is operated by Explore Management Limited, trading as Edutainment UK (“we”, “us”, “our”), a company registered in England and Wales under company number 14755408, with its registered office at 71 Gerald Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, NE4 8QH. Contact: buzz@edutainmentuk.com.

By purchasing, downloading, installing, or using the Plugin, or by using the Website, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Definitions

  • Free Plugin means the free edition of Edutain Certificate Validator, distributed via WordPress.org under the GPL.
  • Pro Plugin means the paid edition of Edutain Certificate Validator, distributed from the Website and via AppSumo.
  • Licence means the right to use the Pro Plugin under the terms in Section 4.
  • Licensed Domain means a live domain (including its www and staging/subdomain used for development) authorised to run the Pro Plugin under your Licence.
  • Licence Key means the unique key issued to you at purchase, used to activate the Pro Plugin.
  • AppSumo means Sumo Group, Inc., operating the AppSumo Marketplace.
  • Freemius means Freemius, Inc., our licensing, checkout, and updates provider.

2. Eligibility and Acceptance

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into contracts. If you accept these Terms on behalf of a company or organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that entity. In that case, “you” refers to that entity.

3. The Plugin

3.1 Free Plugin

The Free Plugin is provided under the GNU General Public License v2 or later (GPL), as required by WordPress.org. Your rights to use, modify, and redistribute the Free Plugin are governed by that licence. These Terms do not restrict your rights under the GPL. The Free Plugin is offered without warranty, as set out in Section 12.

3.2 Pro Plugin

The Pro Plugin extends the Free Plugin with additional features (QR codes, PDF certificates, expiry and revocation tracking, custom fields, email delivery, analytics, and others as described on the Website at the time of purchase). Use of the Pro Plugin requires a valid Licence.

The Pro Plugin’s PHP source code inherits the GPL from its dependency on WordPress and the Free Plugin. However, any bundled assets that are not GPL-covered (images, CSS files, JavaScript files, licence key, updates, and support services) are proprietary and licensed only to you under these Terms.

4. Licence Grant

Subject to your compliance with these Terms and payment of the applicable fees, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to install and use the Pro Plugin according to the tier you purchased.

4.1 Single-Domain Licence

A Single-Domain Licence permits activation of the Pro Plugin on one (1) production domain that you own or operate.

You may additionally activate the Licence on one (1) staging or development environment for that same domain (for example, staging.yourdomain.com or a local development URL), provided it is not used for commercial purposes.

4.2 Multi-Domain Licence

A Multi-Domain Licence permits activation of the Pro Plugin on the number of production domains stated on the Website’s pricing page at the time of purchase, each of which you own or operate.

Each production domain under a Multi-Domain Licence carries the same staging/development allowance as described in Section 4.1.

4.3 Common rules for all Licence tiers

  • You may install the Pro Plugin on client sites you build and manage, provided those installations are counted against your Licensed Domain allowance.
  • Each Licensed Domain must be independently activated using the Licence Key. Activations are tracked via Freemius.
  • If you deactivate the Pro Plugin on a domain, that activation slot is released and may be used elsewhere.
  • Multisite installations count as one Licensed Domain per network, regardless of the number of sub-sites, provided all sub-sites are operated by the same legal entity.

5. Licence Restrictions

You must not:

  • exceed the number of Licensed Domains permitted by your Licence tier;
  • share, resell, sublicense, rent, lease, or redistribute the Pro Plugin, the Licence Key, or any proprietary asset bundled with it;
  • distribute the Pro Plugin as part of a theme, plugin, or other product bundle without our written permission;
  • circumvent, disable, or attempt to circumvent the licensing, activation, or update mechanisms;
  • remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or attribution notices in the Pro Plugin;
  • use the Plugin for any unlawful purpose or in a way that infringes anyone’s rights.

Nothing in this Section 5 restricts any right you have under the GPL in relation to the GPL-covered PHP source code.

6. Purchases, Pricing, and Taxes

All prices are shown on the Website and are exclusive of applicable taxes unless stated otherwise. VAT and other sales taxes are calculated at checkout by Freemius based on your billing location.

Payment is processed by Freemius (using Stripe and PayPal as underlying processors). You must provide accurate billing information. We do not store your full card details (see our Privacy Policy).

We reserve the right to change our pricing at any time. Price changes do not affect purchases already completed.

7. Subscriptions and Lifetime Licences

Depending on the option you select, your Licence is either:

  • Annual subscription — automatically renews at the then-current renewal price until you cancel. Cancellation stops future renewals but does not entitle you to a refund of the current term. When a subscription ends, the Pro Plugin will keep working, but you will no longer receive updates or support until you renew.
  • Lifetime Licence — a one-off payment covering updates and support for the lifetime of the Pro Plugin product, not the lifetime of the buyer, and only for as long as we continue to publish and support the Pro Plugin. We commit to giving reasonable notice if we ever discontinue the product.

8. AppSumo Purchases

If you purchased a Licence through the AppSumo Marketplace, the following additional terms apply:

  • Your Licence is governed by these Terms and by AppSumo’s own Marketplace terms and refund policy.
  • Refunds for AppSumo purchases are handled by AppSumo in line with their standard refund window (typically 60 days from purchase). We do not process refunds for AppSumo orders directly.
  • Stacking rules, tier upgrades, and entitlement redemption are as described on our AppSumo product listing at the time of your purchase.
  • If AppSumo removes our product from their marketplace, existing AppSumo Licences remain valid under the entitlement you already purchased.
  • Licences purchased through AppSumo are for the tier and number of codes stacked at purchase and cannot later be transferred to a different account or resold.

9. Updates and Support

Active Licences (whether subscription, lifetime, or AppSumo) include:

  • automatic updates to the Pro Plugin delivered through Freemius;
  • access to our support channels for reasonable assistance with installation, configuration, and bug reports.

Support is provided in English, during our normal business hours, and covers the Pro Plugin’s own functionality on standard WordPress environments. It does not cover: custom development, third-party plugin or theme conflicts we cannot reproduce, server configuration, or training on WordPress basics.

The Free Plugin is supported on a best-effort basis via the WordPress.org support forum.

10. Refunds and Cancellation

10.1 Direct purchases from the Website

You have the right to cancel a purchase and receive a full refund within 14 days of your purchase, provided that:

  • you have not caused irreparable use of the Pro Plugin’s updates/support entitlement in bad faith, and
  • your reason for cancellation is genuine (technical incompatibility, unmet expectations, or similar).

By downloading, installing, or activating the Pro Plugin before the end of the 14-day period, you expressly consent to the immediate performance of the contract and acknowledge that the digital product is being supplied to you before the end of the statutory cancellation period. However, we voluntarily honour the 14-day refund window described above regardless of this waiver, at our discretion, on genuine grounds.

To request a refund, email buzz@edutainmentuk.com with your order number and reason. Approved refunds are processed to the original payment method within 14 days.

10.2 Renewals

Subscription renewals are non-refundable once processed, but you can cancel future renewals at any time from your account.

10.3 AppSumo purchases

See Section 8. Refunds are handled by AppSumo.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your Licence with immediate effect if you materially breach these Terms (including exceeding your Licensed Domains, sharing your Licence Key, or attempting to circumvent activation). We will normally give you a reasonable opportunity to correct the breach first, except in cases of piracy or abuse.

On termination, your right to receive updates and support ends. The Pro Plugin will continue to function on your existing Licensed Domains until you uninstall it, but automatic updates will stop.

You may terminate your Licence at any time by uninstalling the Pro Plugin. Termination does not entitle you to a refund except as set out in Section 10.

12. Warranties and Disclaimer

The Free Plugin is provided “as is” under the GPL, without warranty of any kind.

The Pro Plugin is provided with reasonable skill and care, and we work to keep it functional, secure, and compatible with current WordPress versions. However, to the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all other warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Plugin will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every third-party plugin, theme, hosting environment, or WordPress version.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any statutory rights you have as a consumer under UK law that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • Our total aggregate liability to you for any and all claims arising from or in connection with the Service is limited to the amount you paid us for the Licence in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill, or business opportunity, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Nothing in this Section 13 excludes or limits our liability for: (a) death or personal injury caused by our negligence; (b) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or (c) any liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded under UK law.

14. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Explore Management Limited, its directors, officers, and employees from any claim, loss, or expense arising from: (a) your breach of these Terms; (b) your use of the Plugin in violation of applicable law; or (c) your handling of personal data of certificate holders or website visitors on any site running the Plugin.

15. Third-Party Services

The Pro Plugin uses Freemius for licensing, checkout, and updates, and may be sold through AppSumo. Payments are processed by Stripe and PayPal via Freemius. Your use of those services is subject to their own terms, and we are not responsible for their acts or omissions except as required by law.

The Pro Plugin bundles the FPDF library (for PDF generation) and the PHP QR Code library (LGPL v3) for QR code generation. Their licences are included with the Plugin.

16. Intellectual Property

Subject to the GPL where it applies, all intellectual property rights in the Website, the Plugin, our name, logo, and content remain with Explore Management Limited or our licensors. Nothing in these Terms transfers any intellectual property rights to you except the limited Licence expressly granted.

17. Privacy

Our handling of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

18. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the latest version. If a change materially affects your rights, we will notify you by email or through the Plugin dashboard. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

19. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may bring proceedings in the courts of your home jurisdiction.

20. General

  • If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force.
  • Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of that provision.
  • You may not assign or transfer your Licence without our written consent. We may assign these Terms to a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
  • These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements.
